## Free vs PRO

| Feature | Free | PRO |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Log every 404**: Each broken URL is stored once, with a hit count. Learn more in [Error logs](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/managing-redirects-and-404-logs/#error-logs). | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Control Panel**: Totals, the URLs hit most often, and the redirects that fire most often. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **One-click Fix it**: The source URL is filled in for you from the log row. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Every match type**: Full URL, contains, starts with, ends with, regex, and find and replace with capture groups. Learn more in [Adding a redirect](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/managing-redirects-and-404-logs/#adding-or-editing-a-redirect). | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Menu item targets**: Point a rule at a menu item, so the destination stays right if the slug changes. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Every redirect and error code**: 301, 302, 303, 307 and 308 redirects, or 400, 401, 403, 404, 410 Gone and 418. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Do nothing action**: Count the hits and still show the normal 404 page, until you decide where it should go. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Plain-English rule preview**: A sentence updates as you type, so you can read the rule before you save it. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Bulk actions and columns**: Turn several rules on or off or delete them together, and show only the columns you use. | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Bot filter**: Crawler 404s stay out of the log unless you opt in. Learn more in [Logging](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#logging). | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Email alerts**: An email with the URL, IP, browser and a Fix button, once per URL or after a number of hits. Learn more in [Email notifications](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#email-notifications). | ✓ | ✓ |
| **CSV import and export**: Back up the redirect list or move it to another WordPress site. Learn more in [Import and export](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#import-and-export). | – | ✓ |
| **Ignore patterns**: Skip logging for paths such as *.map or wp-json/*. Learn more in [Auto-ignore patterns](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#auto-ignore-patterns). | – | ✓ |
| **Automatic log cleanup**: Delete log rows older than 30, 60, 90 or 180 days. Redirects stay. | – | ✓ |
| **Email digest**: A daily or weekly summary of the top broken URLs instead of single alerts. Learn more in [Email digest](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#email-digest). | – | ✓ |
| **Catch-all 404 page**: Send every unmatched 404 to one URL or menu item. Specific rules still win. Learn more in [Catch-all](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#redirect-all-404-error-links-to-one-page). | – | ✓ |
| **Danger strings**: Flag probe paths such as .env, choose whether to log and email them, and send them elsewhere. Learn more in [Danger strings](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#danger-strings). | – | ✓ |
| **GeoIP exclusions**: Skip logging and emails for selected countries or continents. Redirects still run. Learn more in [GeoIP2](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#geoip2-webservice). | – | ✓ |

## Frequently asked questions

### Does it work with current WordPress and PHP?

Yes. It needs **WordPress 5.3** or newer and **PHP 7.4** or newer, as listed in the [requirements](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/installation/#requirements). GeoIP lookups in PRO need PHP 8.1 or newer.

### Why fix a 404 instead of leaving the error page?

Someone followed an old link and stopped. A **301** sends them to the page that replaced it. If the page should stay gone, answer with **410 Gone** so crawlers drop the URL. The [FAQ](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/faq/#what-http-redirect-code-should-i-use) explains which code to use.

### Will the log slow the site down?

No. Normal pages are not logged. If a cache plugin serves a stored 404 by itself, exclude 404 responses from that cache so this plugin can see the request, as the [FAQ](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/faq/#can-i-use-this-alongside-a-caching-plugin) describes.

### Can one rule cover a whole old section?

Yes, in the free version. Use **Contains**, **Starts with** or **Ends with**, or turn on regex. **Find and replace** keeps the changing part of the address, as shown in [capture groups](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/managing-redirects-and-404-logs/#capture-groups-with-regex).

### Can every unmatched 404 go to one page?

Yes, in [PRO](https://www.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/pricing). The [catch-all redirect](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#redirect-all-404-error-links-to-one-page) runs only when no specific rule matches. Point it at a URL or a menu item.

### Can I move redirects to another site?

Yes, in [PRO](https://www.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/pricing). Export a CSV on one site and import it on the other, as described in [Import and export](https://docs.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/settings/#import-and-export).

### What is free, and what is PRO?

**Free:** the 404 log, the Control Panel, Fix it, every match type with regex and find-and-replace, menu-item targets, every redirect and error code, email alerts with once-per-URL and hit limits, and the bot filter.

**[PRO](https://www.web357.com/fix-404-error-links-wordpress-plugin/pricing):** CSV import and export, ignore patterns, automatic log cleanup, a daily or weekly email digest, the catch-all page, danger strings, GeoIP exclusions, and 1 year of updates and support.
